What is a Home Performance Specialist? A Nationally Certified Energy Star Verifier that insures that every Energy Star Home Complies with the Northwest Energy Star BOP (Builders option Package)
This includes:
*Analyzing Framing Methods
*Insulation Verification
*Air Sealing (Windows, Doors, Walls, Recepticles, Etc.)
*Duct Sealing (All Ducts are sealed with Mastic)
*Duct Testing for overall leakage (This test is done using a tool called a duct blaster)
*Verification of Furnace and A/C Efficiency requirements.
*Verify Water Heater and Dishwasher Meet Energy Star Standards
*Check Crawlspace for Properly installed Vapor Barrier
*50% CFL's (50% of the lighting in the home must be Compact Florescent Lights)
*And finally a total home leakage test (Called a Blower Door Test)
This is just the Start:
Each phase is documented and final results are passed on to the Northwest Energy Efficiciency Alliance
Then Quality Assurance comes in from out of state and Verifies our Measurements.
Finally, after a diligent effort has been put forth by the H.P.S. and the builder, we have an Energy Star Home. Thereafter, we receive from the Energy Star Provider, the Certificate that stays with that home and proves that this home will perform as it is designed.
So what is the design?
A standard IECC home (International Energy Conservation Code) Has a Home Energy Rating of 100
An Energy Star Home is 25 to 30 percent better than an IECC Home.
